この冬、読谷村にお越し下さった皆さんに、 少しでも素敵な時間をお届けできたらと願っています。
Yomitan Night Light Project.
Central Okinawa, located on a peninsula, is home to Yomitan Village. To bring excitement to the winter season in Okinawa—a time considered the off-season for tourism—the local community came together to launch the "Yomitan Night Light Project."
The project centers around the warm, glowing light of lanterns.
Lanterns illuminated by local shops bring warmth to the entire village. A stamp rally, with a chance to win gift certificates, fosters cheerful exchanges. A photo contest with luxurious prizes offers opportunities to discover a new side of Yomitan’s night.
This winter, we hope to bring a touch of joy and create wonderful moments for everyone who visits Yomitan Village.
アジア色豊かに、それぞれが灯すあたたかみのあるランタンの“あかり”を楽しんでもらえたら嬉しいです。
What is Ryukyu Lantern Festival ?
The main venue for the Yomitan Night Light Project, aimed at introducing this initiative to a wide audience, is the Ryukyu Lantern Festival held at Experiences Kingdom Murasakimura.
This facility was originally created for the filming of the historical drama “The Winds of Ryukyu.” It recreates Naha Kume Village, a bustling international port city that flourished during the Ryukyu Kingdom's maritime trading era. The village, once home to many Chinese settlers and a central hub of the Ryukyu trading golden age, is beautifully illuminated with various lights, including Chinese lanterns, lantern sculptures, Vietnamese lanterns, Nebuta lanterns, and traditional Japanese washi paper lanterns.
We hope visitors will enjoy the warm and vibrant “lights” of the lanterns, rich in the colors and spirit of Asia.

“The Dragon” displayed at the venue was created by Aomori Nebuta artisans Hiroaki Fukushi and Dai Osanai. They traveled all the way from Aomori to Okinawa and crafted the piece on site. Please take a close look and enjoy the powerful and dynamic form that is unique to the Nebuta tradition.
In addition, all of the creatures in the Ryukyu Yokai Area were also created by Aomori Nebuta artisans.
The traditional craftsmanship of Aomori breathes life into the dragon and the Ryukyu yokai, illuminating the night with a one-of-a-kind world of fantasy and light thatcan
only be seen here. ※The“ Kingyo Nebuta” lanterns were created by the staff of Murasakimura, who learned the traditional techniques directly from Nebuta artisans.
